Red Drum aka Redfish (Sciaenops Ocellatus)
Probably the most sought out species of gamefish in our waters, the redfish can be found and caught throughout our area year around.
Typically dark bronze to golden orange in color with their trademark black spot near the tail. Known for it's hard fight, the redfish will aggressively eat a wide variety of artificial lures or a well placed fly.
From late fall through early spring we often target these fish while they are feeding on shallow flats... often referred to as tailing reds... because when they are feeding off the bottom in shallow water their tail is often visible above the surface. During the fall schools of large breeder fish, often called bull reds, can be targeted as they prepare to head off shore to spawn.
